Recovery of the bodies of SS James and Philip

San Francesco, Foligno

In 1377, when the people of Bevagna rebelled against Trincio Trinci, Lord of Foligno, the Blessed James and Philip, two friars from San Francesco, travelled to Bevagna, where they intended to persuade the rebellious people of Bevagna to make peace.   Trincio Trinci accused them of treason and had them executed in the main piazza of Bevagna.

Relics

Their bodies were thrown into the Topino, but miraculously floated back to Foligno in a boat that beached in front of the church of Santa Maria al Ponte di San Magno.  They were recovered  and translated to the Duomo, but when the doors of that church refused to open while the bells of San Francesco started to ring unaided, they were translated to San Francesco.

[The relics have been temporarily transferred to the Oratorio del Gonfalone while the church is repaired after the earthquake of 2016.]
