The nuns preserve a copy of the papal bull “In sinu sedis”, which Pope Boniface VIII sent to the Poor Clares in 1298. This has led some authorities to believe that there was a nunnery of poor Clares here at that time. However, it is documented only from 1502, when Fra. Egidio Delfini, the Minister General of the Franciscans, complained about various disorders that he found here. Little was done to correct the situation, and the Commune transferred responsibility for the nuns from the Franciscans to the episcopal authorities of Spoleto in 1566.
